History of CARITAS of the Diocese of Buea

CARITAS of the Diocese of Buea was established the On 22nd of august 2013 by His Lordship Bishop Immanuel Bushu as a non-profit association within the local church. It operates under the prerogatives granted by the Code of Canon Law, specifically in sections 308-312 and 393-396, which govern associations of the faithful.

The organization has obtained civil recognition in accordance with the relevant provisions of Cameroonian legislation. With 10 years of experience, CARITAS has been dedicated to improving the lives of GBV survivors, women at risk, the neediest, Orphans and vulnerable Children, Inmates, widows, farmers, youth and the poorest, and the marginalized in FAKO Division.

OUR MISSION

AT CARITAS

Its mission is to assist local communities in eradicating dehumanizing poverty while spreading charity and social justice throughout the diocese.

The objectives of CARITAS focus on providing relief and assistance to the most underprivileged, including orphans, vulnerable children, inmates, widows, farmers, and youth, while also coordinating emergency interventions. They aim to study and address poverty-related issues, promote human development, and empower individuals to take responsibility for their future. CARITAS also seeks to strengthen collaboration among members, represent them at interdenominational and international levels, and work with global development organizations. Additionally, it promotes evangelization and faith-based living, encourages self-initiated education and collective growth, and supports the creation of CARITAS groups in parishes where they are not yet established.

Vision

The vision of CARITAS in the Diocese of Buea is to "Share LOVE and free the world from misery."

Caritas operational area covers the whole of Fako division, functionally organized in 50 local committees.
