Communities in Idenau and Muea are witnessing transformative improvements in access to clean water and community empowerment thanks to the latest achievements of an ongoing WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) project. The goal of this project is to provide access to safe drinking water and fighting against cholera epidemic among the population affected by the socio-political crisis in Fako
In Idenau, a major milestone was reached with the successful digging of a borehole to provide clean and sustainable water. To ensure consistent access, a 5,000-liter water storage tank was mounted on a newly constructed tower, with a solar-powered system installed to pump and supply water efficiently to the surrounding community.
Alongside infrastructure development, 50 community members were trained in vital areas including community leadership, humanitarian principles, and hygiene promotion. These training sessions are aimed at equipping local stakeholders with the skills and knowledge to manage water resources sustainably and foster long-term behavioral change in sanitation and hygiene practices.
A similar success story is unfolding in Muea, where another borehole was dug and a tower constructed to support water distribution. In parallel, 50 additional community members received training on community leadership, humanitarian values, and hygiene promotion—highlighting the project’s commitment to both physical infrastructure and human capital development.
These achievements mark significant progress in the mission to improve public health, reduce waterborne diseases, and strengthen local resilience. By integrating clean water solutions with education and capacity-building, the WASH project continues to empower communities while promoting dignity, health, and sustainable development.
Project leaders express optimism about the growing impact and pledge continued support for underserved communities across the region.
