In a world where periods are still met with silence and stigma, CARITAS of the Diocese of Buea is helping to change the narrative. On May 28, 2025- World Menstrual Hygiene Day – the organization took its message of dignity and awareness to the classrooms of Government Primary Schools Bonakanda and Bova. Under the theme “Together for a Period-Friendly World,” the campaign reached 51 pupils and their teachers, opening honest conversations about menstrual health, hygiene, and emotional intelligence. With hands-on demonstrations and age-appropriate education, both girls and boys learned that menstruation is not a taboo, but a natural part of life that deserves understanding and respect.
To reinforce this powerful message, CARITAS distributed reusable sanitary pads to each of the 23 female participants and red medicated soap to the 19 male pupils, highlighting inclusiveness and shared responsibility. More than just an awareness session, the outreach was a call to break barriers, end shame, and create communities where no child feels afraid to speak about their body. In championing menstrual dignity, CARITAS continues to light the path toward a healthier, more compassionate society.
